Club Leadership

EMILY HUANG  PRESIDENT

I am a third year undergraduate City and Regional Planning student minoring in Sustainable Environments, with interests in urban design, transportation, and sustainability. Growing up, I got the chance to visit numerous cities around the world, which sparked my interest in planning. I have been an active ASP member since last year, and it has been an amazing experience visiting firms, attending planning conferences, and getting to know other CRP students. I am extremely humbled to get to serve as ASP President for the 2017-2018 school year. I hope to provide more opportunities and resources for planning students to succeed and learn more about their major, while still having fun! I will be dedicated to helping ASP grow not only in size, but professionally, socially, and within the community.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, photography, and kickboxing.

RITU MURALIDHARAN VICE PRESIDENT

My name is Ritu Muralidharan and I am a third year City and Regional Planning student, with a minor in Sustainable Environments.

My curiosity in city planning piqued during my childhood as the small suburban town I lived in developed into a large city. My main interests in planning include transportation planning and sustainable design, as well as application of Smart City technologies in planning. As Vice President, I hope to establish a professional mentorship program and create more networking opportunities.

When not in the CRP building, I can be found by the beach or exploring Downtown SLO.

JUSTIN WONG  TREASURER

My name is Justin Wong, and I am a third-year City and Regional Planning student.  I’m from Alameda, California, and I am interested in sustainable urban design.  During my free time, I enjoy all the outdoor activities that SLO has to offer.   I also enjoy playing ultimate frisbee and learning music on different instruments.

This Fall, I will be studying abroad in Copenhagen, so I will not be on campus.  However, I look forward to sharing my experiences with you when I return in the Winter.

As ASP’s club treasurer, I will focus on fundraising for our California firm trips.  I have met many classmates as well as professionals through these trips, and it is an excellent opportunity to expand your professional network.

SAM HUGHES SECRETARY

I’m a senior in the planning program, originally from Santa Cruz, California. My interests in planning began at an early age, drawing elaborate maps of cities, campuses and airports as a kid. Since joining the CRP family, I have learned that planning goes far beyond site planning and design, but is in fact a complex field incorporating policy, interdisciplinary cooperation and above all, democracy. My goals involve making cities that are efficient, enjoyable, and able to keep up with a changing world.

Joining ASP will bring you an enjoyable and dynamic experience where you will meet many connections in academia and the professional world. My hope is that this club is enjoyable, has successful networking events, and easy communication.

WILLOW URQUIDI  STUDENT & FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE

My name is Willow Urquidi and I am a fourth-year CRP major with an Environmental Studies minor. I joined ASP to make connections in the field, learn more about planning and make friends in the department. I hope to use my skills in planning to someday design places that are beautiful, easy to navigate and friendly to the environment! On campus, I am also involved with Greek Life and the CAED Ambassadors program. In my free time I like to draw, read or spend time outdoors.

Lauren Gaul  CAED Representative

I am a fourth year undergraduate student in City and Regional Planning. In addition to being the ASP representative I am also involved in Greek life, the CAED ambassador program, and also serve as the CRP department representative for the CAED student council. I love getting involved on campus, looking for any way I can help out or get involved.

I am from Marin County in the northern part of the Bay Area. I love visiting my family whenever I have a break,  and am very close with my sister (a recent Cal Poly Grad)! I can't wait for an exciting and eventful year with everyone. I hope I can make the most of my experiences and help make ASP better for everyone.

ERINA SHIMANUKI CAED REPRESENTATIVE

I am a third year City and Regional Planning student with a Sustainable Environments and Landscape Architecture minor.

I found my passion for planning through my love for the environment and the creative freedom that this major offers. My main interests within planning are sustainability and urban design. I have been an active member of ASP for my past two years at Cal Poly. This year, I will work my hardest to emphasize inclusivity and be a helping hand for anyone in the club or our major.

When I am not in studio, I love to go to the beach, play sports, and get involved in campus activities.
