Hosted by: Professor Keith Woodcock Guest: Brad Richter, Vice President of Planning at Civic San Diego
San Diego, the 8th largest city in the United States, is a place for innovation, recreation, and relaxation. National Geographic selected San Diego to be one of the “World’s Smart Cities;” the only city in North America.
San Diego is also well known for its ventures in international trade, tourism, manufacturing, and the military. The popular downtown San Diego and the historic Gaslamp Quarter is home to a myriad of activity, from cultural attractions to places to eat, shop, and adventure. Much of San Diego’s success is due to a semi-governmental non-profit organization called Civic San Diego. Civic San Diego is largely responsible for the city’s vision for the future. Civic San Diego’s mission is to foster innovative community partnerships to improve the quality of life in San Diego’s neighborhoods. You can read more in Civic SD’s Downtown Community Plan.
In this episode, Professor Keith Woodcock will interview Brad Richter, Vice President of Planning at Civic San Diego, to explore Civic San Diego’s role in the development of Downtown San Diego. Brad Richter discusses everything from the downtown’s unique CEQA process, economic development, and community outreach. So, put on your city planner hat and take a listen to this podcast to learn about one of the most thriving and successful cities in the United States.
